🎨 3 prompts. 30 minutes. His kit design might actually get made into a real one.

Happy Easter weekend!

Quick one this week — three things from the past seven days that are worth your time.

In this week’s email:

  • How Mateo used AI to design a competition-winning football kit at Easter camp (other use cases too)
  • Seedance 2.0: the most impressive AI video tool I've tested, with honest caveats for families
  • WordLab: one week in, what parents and kids are actually doing with it

⚽ He designed a competition-winning football kit using AI

Mateo came home from his Tekkers soccer camp on Monday with homework.

His team (Paris Saint Germain, Champions League week) had to design a new kit for the camp organisers. Best design wins team points and he can be competitive 😄

He started sketching on paper. Then we had an idea: instead of drawing the jersey shape from scratch, use AI to generate a blank template he could work from.

We used Nano Banana 2 on Higgsfield. The first prompt was straightforward:

Clean outline. Tekkers logo in place. Nothing else. Ready to colour.

Then Mateo picked two favourite jersey patterns he wanted to borrow. The Arsenal third kit. The Ireland away kit. For each one, we uploaded the real jersey image alongside the blank template and asked the AI to transfer just the pattern, no colours, no sponsor logos.

He then set to work coming up with creative colour designs for the new kit.

He went into camp Tuesday with four finished designs. His teammates picked his as the best on the team. It then went to the full camp vote and he won!

One of his design is now being considered for the actual Teaching Tekkers kit next season 🤯

He came home buzzing.

The guide has all three exact prompts we used:

This works beyond football. Same workflow for designing dresses, superhero costumes, sports uniforms. If your child has a reference image and a colour idea, AI handles the technical part.

🎮 WordLab: one week in

Last Friday I sent you the link to WordLab, the free vocabulary game I built for my kids.

A week later, here's what's happening:

Hundreds of you have tried it. The most popular topics this week:

  • Solar system,
  • Harry Potter characters,
  • Animals,
  • World Cup Heroes,
  • CVC words (someone is doing phonics homework 🎼 )

The crossword is the most-played game. The word search has the highest finish rate.

If you haven't tried it yet, it takes about 30 seconds. No signup, no ads.

(FYI- It is still a work in progress with a few bugs so feedback is very welcome!)

🎬 Seedance 2.0: impressive, worth knowing about, read this first

ByteDance launched Seedance 2.0 this week. The results are genuinely cinematic. Text, images, and reference videos go in. 15-second clips with consistent characters across shots come out.

The launch materials literally say "the line between real and generated is officially gone."

I'm working on a short little animated film which will be in next week's update (via CapCut).

For families, the useful case is animation from illustrated images, not realistic human video. The caveats are real:

  • ByteDance is the TikTok parent company. Same data questions apply.
  • The Motion Picture Association has an active lawsuit over the training data.

Some creator workarounds for bypassing face restrictions are not something I’d share with kids.

My take: illustrated and animated content only. Have the “AI vs real life” conversation before you start.

That's it for this week!

Happy Easter,

P.S. If you try the kit/dress/clothes design project with your kids this weekend, reply and let me know how it goes.
