🎮 5 free word games for Easter (I built them this week)

Happy Friday folks!

The kids break up for Easter holidays today. Two weeks of "I'm bored" incoming 😅. So I built something to hopefully keep them occupied for a little while (when they are not outside playing).

In this week’s email:

  • The vocabulary game I created from my son’s homework book (that you can use too)
  • Turn any worksheet into unlimited practice exercises using AI
  • 3 Easter holiday projects to try with your kids

✏️ I built a free vocabulary game from my son's homework book

My 8-year-old loves the crossword in his weekly spelling homework. He gets stuck sometimes, but the satisfaction when he cracks it keeps him coming back.

But he doesn't care about the topics. So I thought: what if he could do the same exercises but about his favourite football players?

I built it. Then I made it work for any topic.

WordLab is free, no signup, no ads. Your child types any topic (football teams, Stitch, dinosaurs, Peppa Pig, countries of Europe) and gets five word games generated by AI in seconds:

  • Crossword with real clues
  • Word search
  • Unjumble
  • Missing letters
  • Who Am I?

My son spent 15-20 minutes on the Arsenal crossword. My 6-year-old and I worked on finding Peppa Pig characters in the word search, and my wife even got hooked on a 'world dances' topic.

I'd love for you to try it with your kids over Easter and let me know what they think (good, bad or indifferent!).

📸 Turn any homework into unlimited practice exercises with AI

A Greek dad went semi-viral on X for photographing his daughter’s maths competition paper, uploading it to Claude, and asking for more exercises at the same level. Infinite practice material in seconds.

I tested this with my kids and wrote up exactly how to do it:

  • Photograph any homework sheet, test, or textbook page
  • Upload to Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini (all free)
  • Ask for 10 similar exercises at the same difficulty
  • Claude’s artifacts feature formats them as clean, printable pages

The trick: always check the answer key as we know AI doesn't always get it right!

This pairs well with WordLab. The chatbot approach works for maths and structured worksheets. WordLab works for vocabulary and spelling practice on topics your kids pick.

🐣 3 things to try over the Easter holidays

Two weeks off school. Here are three projects for you try with your kids:

1. WordLab vocabulary games (5 mins setup, 30 mins play)

Type any topic your child is into right now. Football team, cartoon, school subject, animals. Five word games appear. No signup needed.

Try it →

2. AI car quiz for road trips (perfect for Easter travel)

Open ChatGPT voice chat, ask it to run a 20-question quiz on any topic. Works hands-free through car speakers. Stick to player careers and historical facts, not recent results (it makes those up).

3. Restore old family photos (great for visiting grandparents)

Take photos of faded family pictures at the grandparents' house and use Nano Banana 2 to restore them. My mum got emotional when she saw her wedding photos restored. Free through the Gemini app.

That's it for this week!
