| Happy Sunday folks! β Apologies for the late send this week. Three things we worked on since last Sunday: a quiz app I built for the kids, and two daft AI projects they have not stopped laughing at. β In this week's email: β - π¦ QuizLab is live: a quiz matched to your kid's exact school year and curriculum
- β½ I gave myself a Colombia World Cup post-match interview
- π¦ We added pterodactyls to our hike (and made a dog confess its best friends)

| π¦ My latest AI game QuizLab is now live It started with Mateo. He's always curious and picking up new things, but I wanted to be sure that what he was learning actually lined up with the Irish primary curriculum. So I built him a quiz for it. β Then I realised the whole curriculum, 1st to 6th class, is publicly available, so I made it for every class, not just his. And then the obvious question: could I do the same for other countries? That's where QuizLab is now. β Here's how it works. You pick your country and your child's school year, and you get a mixed quiz, maths, English, science, history, the lot, matched to what they're learning that year. β We use AI to help generate the questions, then test every single one by hand to make sure it's accurate and on point. It's fully built for Ireland, the US and India, with the UK and a few more countries rolling out now (everything still in beta) β Have a go with your kids. Pick your country and their year, and if your country isn't listed yet, choose General. There's a thumbs up or down and a message box at the end of every quiz if you want to tell me how they got on. β β π Try is here: QuizLab β | |
| β½ I gave myself a Colombia post-match interview β The World Cup is in full swing, and Colombia played their first match on Thursday against Uzbekistan. Tight in the first half, then they won it comfortably, 3-1. If you have ever been around Colombians during a tournament you know how seriously they take the SelecciΓ³n, and my Colombian family are no exception. β β So I had a bit of fun. I made a clip of myself standing pitchside straight after the game, sweating and tired, giving my reaction to a reporter as if I had just played in it. β βNano Banana put me in the yellow Colombia jersey, and Seedance built the rest, the reporter, the microphone, the whole post-match scene, from one photo and a short prompt. It also aged me about five years and gave me an English accent, both fixable π. β Mateo loved it, and my Colombian family thought it was hilarious. We are making one of Mateo next. β If you have a football-mad kid, this is a brilliant one to copy. Watch the 15-second clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMoKeAY0aF4β β π The exact two prompts to make your own are hereβ β | |
| π¦ Pterodactyls over MedellΓn, and a very honest dog β During the week the five of us climbed a small mountain beside where we're staying. An hour and a half up, a bit quicker down, and at the top we got this beautiful view over MedellΓn. I filmed the kids playing and did a slow pan across the city. β Then I dropped that clip into Gemini Omni and asked it to add three pterodactyls flying over the city. It recreated the whole scene and dropped them in fairly accurately. One catch worth knowing: I filmed in portrait and Omni only outputs landscape, so it reframed it. It's a lovely little activity to try, take a real video your kids are in and ask Gemini to make it fun. β Omni also has a templates feature with ready-made ideas. I grabbed a talking dog one, gave it the line "my best friends are Mateo, Maria and Conor," and it generated the dog saying it, adding its own audio. β Check it out here: ββ The kids could not stop laughing. We went to the zoo the next day with their cousins and everyone was giggling in the car looking at. Very cheap, very little effort, all from a phone. | |
| That's it for this week. If your kids play QuizLab, I'd love to hear how they got on, there's a feedback box at the end of every quiz. β And if they try the pterodactyl or dog talking trick, hit reply and tell me what they added to their video. β See you next week, Niall (AI Dad Lab) β | |
